I will give Mike Boyce credit, he will reply to you almost all the time but take a look at this e-mail chain below:

Question: You’re going to raise our taxes to cover this short fall, give others tax breaks to convince them to come to our county and hope they don’t see embarrassing stuff like this?

Answer: I am disappointed that you would use FB as your reference point for an opinion on this matter … you can see from today’s newspaper that we have a company that is willing to invest potentially $264M in Cobb. That speaks volumes to your question about attracting business and how the County is viewed.

Must be nice…

Boyce apparently considers “investing” the same as “requesting up to $264 million in bonds.” Bonds were also used to build SunTrust Park the new home of the Braves if I’m not mistaken that likely put us into the budget shortfall we are facing now and will most likely lead to property tax increases this year.

“It could create 863 jobs, according to a Georgia Tech analysis.” I hope these people will live near by because there is no train to take them to/from work in rush hour.

As for my commissioner Bob Ott, I await his reply on a number of issues including this one. You may be able to find his candidate endorsements though (ah hmm Matt Bentley).

“An advanced manufacturing company could bring more than 850 jobs to Cobb County at a site near SunTrust Park.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the unnamed company is eyeing a site owned by the Atlanta Braves on Circle 75 Parkway near the Braves’ new stadium. A group representing the company went before the Development Authority of Cobb County May 15 to request up to $264 million in bonds for a research and development facility and a 290,000-square-foot office building to rent, according to the report.

The effort is dubbed “Project Dashboard.” It could create 863 jobs, according to a Georgia Tech analysis.”

Mr. Thompson

I am disappointed that you would use FB as your reference point for an opinion on this matter without reaching out to the police to hear their explanation and see what was on their body cameras. The mother of those involved in this arrest acknowledged that only embarrassing characteristic of this incident was the behavior of her children.

As for your concern about this kind of incident adversely impacting our ability to bring businesses to Cobb, you can see from today’s newspaper that we have a company that is willing to invest potentially $264M in Cobb. That speaks volumes to your question about attracting business and how the County is viewed.

Mike,

Thanks for your proactive and fast responses, however, again:

Were ten police officers + a K9 really necessary to escalate this as you have clearly seen that hundreds of thousands of people have seen this video?

I’ll ask again, what are you doing to improve the the image of our county?

You’re going to raise our taxes to cover this short fall, give others tax breaks to convince them to come to our county and hope they don’t see embarrassing stuff like this?

Mr. Thompson

The Director of Public Safety anticipated your question and others and send me the following email this morning.

We received this complaint/inquiry yesterday into the complainants sons arrest. She had only seen the linked Facebook live video. She has since seen Officer Barnett’s body cam video and is embarrassed about her sons actions and wanted it taken off of Facebook.
