BOAC: British Overseas Airways Corporation
In AvGeek circles this week, this 747–400 retro jet made lots of press and interest.
First, let me rewind a bit to a the Netflix series The Crown which is an amazing (and quite expensive series) if you haven’t had a chance to see it. My friends over at the Airline Pilot Guy podcast were thorough as they always are to research why this plane was named “ATLANTA.”
I am all about retro most anything so when present-day British Airways decided to brand one of their “Queen of the Skies” 747–400 planes as a precursor livery BOAC: British Overseas Airways Corporation, I had to throw this story together.
Also speaking of retro AvGeek stuff, The TWA Hotel at JFK airport near where I’m typing this opens soon.
Eero Saarinen created some of the most unique buildings like this TWA terminal and Dulles airport just west of Washington, DC. I remember the first time I flew into Dulles it smelled of old fried chicken but there will likely never be another airport ever built like it with it’s critter moving flight lounges and designs that make me feel like I’m on the set of the 80’s version of the television mini-series V.
